2008 Burnside Road Pinot Noir
A Single Vineyard Pinot Noir
From our Estate Vineyards in the Russian River Valley
The first aromas of this dark garnet-colored wine showcase fresh blackberries, ripe cherries and dried cranberries. These are quickly followed by an incredible baking-spice profile that includes fennel seed, clove and cardamom with a hint of sweet caramel from barrel aging. In the mouth, the concentration and focus of the wine become evident with a full texture that is integrated with light tannins. The distinct cool-climate acidity creates the core of this well-balanced wine. Its structure and acid balance suggest that it will improve and gain complexity with up to five years of bottle aging.
Harvest Date: September 8 to September 12, 2008
Brix at Harvest: 24.4 to 25.7
Clones: 50% clone-32, 40% clone-23, 10% clone-113
Vineyard: Our estate vineyards on Burnside Road sit high in the hills west of Sebastopol, about ten miles from the Pacific Ocean. The growing climate is dominated by coastal fog influences that keep the site cooler, and its steep and rolling hills and Goldridge sandy soils drain excess water away from the vines. This location is one of those rare places were Pinot noir can ripen slowly and produce wines of great depth and distinction.
Soils: The soils at our Burnside Vineyards are predominately Goldridge soil.
Other Information: This wine was barrel aged for 10 months in French oak (35% new, 30% one-year-old barrels.)
